|Results from the implementation of the UNDP-GEF Project, "Improving energy efficiency in the residential building sector of Turkmenistan," were reviewed in Ashgabat|
Similar in its goals with the Russian Project, the Turkmenistan Project was implemented for 5 years and aimed at improving the regulatory framework to promote and ensure energy efficiency in construction, development, and on the pilot demo objects of new energy efficient technical solutions and technologies for their demonstration, as well as on the development and implementation of educational programs and energy management systems of buildings.
Irina Atamuradova, who has supervised the work all these years, presented the main achievements of the completed Project. The results of the cooperation with the Turkmenistan Ministry of Сonstruction were the following: 4 revised GNP, 3 developed tools to new GNP, 3 methodical and reference material to support the implementation of the requirements to the revised GNP, 11 standard projects of energy-efficient residential cottage houses were established. With the support of the Turkmenistan Ministry of Housing, demo projects were implemented through the energy-efficient modernization of 3 houses, 2 documents were prepared on energy audits and 22 energy audits were implemented. The energy management system was developed and is being tested now. Together with Turkmennebitgazgurlushik, 2 new energy efficient houses of enhanced comfort level and 1 energy efficient building of standard housing were built.
During the official closing of the project's event, the results of regional UNDP projects from Russia (UNDP / GEF Project "Building energy efficiency in the North-West of Russia"), Belarus, Moldova and Kyrgyzstan were presented, and new projects in Uzbekistan and Ukraine were announced. UNDP Regional Technical Advisor on climate change mitigation, John O'Brien, presented a review report on the experience of the UNDP Projects in the energy efficiency of buildings.
On May 4, a visit was organized at the pilot sites, implemented under the UNDP-GEF Project, "Improving energy efficiency in the residential building sector of Turkmenistan." Among them were the residential building of enhanced comfort level in Ashgabat and 5 apartment buildings in the residential area of Koshi. During the visits, the leading technical expert for energy audits, Arslan Zomov, demonstrated modernized engineering systems (heat and water), installed energy-saving lamps in common areas, triple-glazed windows with energy efficient coating inside, chillers with energy efficiency class A, ventilated facades, ventilated flat roof, and a special vestibule at the entrance of the doorways.
Through the newly implemented energy saving measures, the savings of electrical energy amounts to approximately 50%, and the thermal energy approximately 30%. Devices for online data collection and transmission of power consumption data, used in the operation of energy management systems, were demonstrated on the second object in a residential area in Koshi.
