In the beginning of 2017, at a kindergarten with the bright name of "Raduga," in the town of the Pskov region's Ostrov, the first in the history of the institution, capital repairs were completed.
Kids of the kindergarten are doubly lucky-with the assistance of the UNDP-GEF Project, "Building energy efficiency in the North-West of Russia," modernization of the building and its annexes were performed with the use of modern energy saving technologies, helping to increase the level of comfort in premises.
"Our kindergarten became not only lighter, but also much warmer," said the head of the kindergarten, Larisa L'vova, speaking with the delegation of the Project about windows, which replaced their wooden predecessors in December of last year. The kindergarten, with a total capacity of 140 people, opened its doors to kids after capital repairs few months ago, "The effect is visible immediately," says the Head of the kindergarten, "Regional Energy Manager Anna, which is always in touch with us, has already made estimates of savings for the first 4 months of the kindergarten' operation. We have already saved about 175 thousand rubles from the budget, and this is only the beginning!"
Under the technical assistance provided by the Project in addition to the replacement of windows, facades, basement and roof of the kindergarten were insulated, all lamps were replaced with modern energy efficient lights, individual thermal units were installed with weather control, thermal isolation of pipelines of heating and hot water were replaced. As a whole, this project, together with the regional Administration, helped to demonstrate how, through the introduction of simple and low-cost energy efficiency measures, not only monetary savings can be achieved, but also a level of comfort in buildings can be increased.
The delegation of the Project also went down to the basement of the kindergarten, where a controller was installed which collects online and brings data on energy consumption into the EMIS. As noted by the Regional Energy Manager, Anna Krasnova, the equipment is working successfully and already has an ability to monitor and analyze energy consumption in the kindergarten in real time. In the future this will help with early detection of deviations from norms of consumption and to eliminate their causes, which is the main goal of the energy management system-to ensure the rational use of energy at the facility.
According to estimates, the energy efficient solutions applied in the kindergarten, "Raduga," in the Pskov region, will help to reduce heat consumption in comparison with initial index at 95%. The electricity consumption will decrease almost by 65%. Energy-efficient capital repairs will also reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of nearly 54 tons per year, which will certainly contribute to the improvement of the ecological situation in the city.
